ASTER Valuable plants that are lavish bloomers for summer and fall gardens. Grow well in reasonably moist, fertile soil. Wet soil in winter can be detrimental. Leaves are undivided, narrow, linear and sometimes toothed. Aster oblongifolius ‘Raydon’s Favorite’- A robust aster with a shrub like disposition. In September innumerable medium blue flowers are produced along its stems. In June, height can be controlled by cutting plants back by half. This method of pruning yields plants that are about 1 foot shorter and delays flowering until late September or early October.
