Ajuga reptans 'Black Scallop'

[ height 3-6 in., flower deep blue in late spring, part shade to sun, spreading evergreen ]

BUGLEWEED Ground cover for small to moderate size areas. Best in sandy loam, moist rather than dry. Ajuga reptans ‘Black Scallop’-  Glossy scalloped foliage is a deep burgundy, appearing black at times.  Plants are spreading semi-evergreens in our area.  Cut plants back after flowering to rejuvenate the dark foliage.  Flowers are deep blue with spikes forming in early summer.  Looks great with gray-green foliaged plants.
