Agastache 'Purple Haze'
[ height 2-3 ft., flower violet-blue july to frost, sun, clump former]
ANISE HYSSOP Bushy foliage is sturdy and has a minty-anise fragrance like licorice. Profuse flower spikes are durable and provide a steady attraction to butterflies and hummingbirds. Suited best for fertile soil with excellent drainage amidst average to dry conditions, which produces an impressive performance. A. ‘Purple Haze’- A hyssop of hybrid origin. While tougher than others that we have tried A. ‘Purple Haze’ still requires careful siting. Of the two types of Agastache’s, one being herbaceous and the other woody, A. ‘Purple Haze’ seems to resemble the later. It has a somewhat woody crown giving way to smokey green stems and foliage. The foliage upon being bruised or even slightly brushed against gives off a fruity mint fragrance similar to that of A. barberi. Another similarity to this species are the coral calyxes, which provide an extended floral feature and contrast nicely with the violet blue flowers. Cut plants back in spring preserving the woody crowns.
